Submission for GBJam 11 - "Space"

You are living your dream of making games for the GameBoi - the only problem is there isn't much space in these things, and you need to make a LOT of them and FAST! A game needs a minimum of at least ONE art, ONE code and ONE audio to be a viable game - submitting a cartridge without all of these pieces will result in a penalty - luckily you have a handy indicator that flashes to let you know when a cartridge is ready to go!

Pack in as many pieces inside the cartridge grid as you can! If you don't need a piece, place it in the bin!

Controls

  • ←↑→↓ - move pieces.
  • Z - place pieces in cartridge/bin.
  • X - submit cartridge.

Made in a single evening. I know it is a bit buggy [please try and place the assets in the cart properly ;) ] but I had a lot of fun sprinting to make this!
Special thanks to Rianna for helping bounce ideas around!

---

Music - Freesound.org - Seth Makes Sounds - Determined VideoGame Music (while it goes against the rules of the jam - as I started so late, I did not get dedicated music)

SFX - BFXR

Known issues

  • It is possible to place pieces that hang outside the grid.
  • It would be fun to get a points bonus for completely filling a cartridge.

This is very clever! Music is not real 8 bit, maybe if you update it would be better! very nice concept man, i want a sequel where you need to solder the various components to the pcb boards

Thanks!
You are absolutely right about the music. If I gave myself more time I wanted to learn a GB music synthesizer for authentic sounds. Maybe for a post-voting update!

I like the idea of needing solder!

its a lot easier on the ears than 8 bit :D

The game is not loading for me :(

Oh no! Well that's no good! What happens? Does it just show a blank space?

(1 edit)

yeah, it just shows me a black screen

edit: I checked the browser console and see this message

[UnityCache] indexedDB database could not be opened

I have tried it on multiple browsers (Firefox, Edge, Brave) and it may be that you have javascript disabled - that was the only thing I could find that left the game on only a black screen.
Unfortunately if it is anything other than that I don't know what to suggest.

I'm on brave, but I tried it on chrome and now it loads!

Hooray!
